Senior Software Development Engineer - Draper Utah
Our firm processes billions of web events per month and is growing very quickly. This has led us to introduce a MapReduce processing model based upon Hadoop software, along with a number of other challenging architectural initiatives. As a skilled developer familiar with several languages and a variety of open source tools, you will enjoy helping us identify and develop the right software solutions for our business requirements. We have some exciting challenges ahead, including new product development and creative data mining that will be perfect for someone seeking an escape from humdrum development positions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership within the engineering team.
- Participate in directing the evolution of our architecture and development process.
- Spend time researching and developing innovative ideas for enhancing and expanding our products.
- Help us rapidly develop and deliver great products.
To be considered for this role, you must have the following attributes
- A bachelors or masters degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent degrees and experience.
- You have demonstrated your ability to produce high quality software backed by appropriate automated tests.
- You have demonstrated your leadership ability including above average communication skills and an appreciation of teamwork.
- You have the ability to both challenge and encourage in a positive manner, are comfortable working in an agile environment and deal well with ambiguity.
We are interested in meeting candidates who have the following skills & experience
- Minimum of 10 years of software development experience.
- Mininum of 2 years experience developing with Java. Ruby experience is a definite asset.
- Experience working with scalable, high availability web based systems is a definite asset.
- Experience with Javascript and web based systems is a definite asset.
- Experience with Linux and Apache servers is required.
- Knowledge of Hadoop or MapReduce algorithms is a definite asset.
Linux Systems/Network Engineer - Draper Utah
Tynt is an exciting, rapidly growing and well-funded startup company that is producing industry-changing software in the field of web analytics. We are seeking an experienced Linux systems & network engineer to join our existing operations team.
Our firm is already monitoring billions of web events every month and growing very fast. We have servers located in multiple colocation sites as well as taking advantage of cloud based computing services. Technologies include CentOS, Apache, MySQL, Ruby and Hadoop.
Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in directing the rapid evolution of our network and server architecture with an emphasis on capacity planning.
- Constructively work with our hosting partners on a regular basis.
- Provision new servers
- Monitor and tune servers and the network for optimal performance
- Maintain and test security infrastructure and procedures
- Troubleshoot issues as required
- Maintain and test backup & restore services.
- Create and maintain appropriate technical documentation
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing
- You will be required to carry an on-call cell phone on a rotational basis
To be considered for this role, you must have the following attributes
- You are comfortable working in a small, fast paced team where requirements and priorities change.
- You are process oriented and cautious when appropriate.
- Must be a self-starter who is able to work remotely from the team.
- A minimum of 5 years experience with Linux systems administration, including scripting experience.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking.
- You must have experience with the LAMP stack.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with implementing security policies and processes is an asset.
- Experience with system monitoring tools and load balancers is an asset.
- Experience with Cisco devices is an asset.
